Derrick is in upper class seven at Opondo primary school. His father died in the year 2001. He was a product of an affair between her mother and the man who inherited her. This was done to fulfil the laws of tradition in Luo community. A few years later his mother also started ailing from different diseases and later on died. He was left under the guardianship of his old grandmother to take care of him. The grandmother is a widow and sickling. Derrick is now very poor and vulnerable with no one to turn to except the grandmother. He was referred to still hope by one of their teachers from school. His dream is to become a teacher too one-day God willing.

Dorothy is the first borne in a family of two siblings. His brother is called Vincent Otieno. Dorothy is under the guardianship of her father who is not able to provide or take care of the family due to some mental disorder. Her father is a strong drug addict and his condition has exposed Dorothy and Vincent to a lot of risks. Many times, they survive through well wishers who sometimes show compassion on them and offer them food. Sometimes they can go survive even on water a one when there’s no food. Vincent his brother is already sponsored at Still hope. She is a good fearing well behaved girl and with some support she can still make it in life. She never misses Church every Sunday. She is trusting God for a sponsor who would support her with basic needs and education.

Emily is the second born in a family of three siblings. Her mother Milker Awuor Ochieng’ died in February 2009 when she was just a little girl of 4yrs old. Her father is still alive but cannot do anything since he became insane a few years after he married. After the death of the mother, Emily and her brothers went to stay with their old grandmother who had an on and off illness. In 2014 the grandmother passed away and left them desperate with no one to attend to them. The only uncle she had did not care for them, so they started to work for people who could give them a little food. By August 2014, life became so hard that they decided to beg on the streets of Oyugis for food, clothing and a shelter. Emily says her dream is to become a teacher when she grows up. She likes playing soccer, singing, fetching water and collecting firewood.

Emmanuel Junior is the first born in their family, the only child. His father passed away when he was 2 years old after a prolonged illness. He was then left under the care of his mother who was very sick and then died in Oct of 2017. He was among the first children who were admitted at Still Hope in October 2014 due to the condition of his mother. He’s one of brightest kids at Still Hope who always is tops in his class. He loves reading, singing to God and is the best soccer player at Still Hope. His dream is to become a lawyer when he grows up.

Franklin Kerry is the third born in a family of four children. He goes to school at Kosele primary school in lower class three. He is a partial orphan who lost his mother in the year 2010 as a result of Pneumonia. A few months later his father married another wife and disappeared from home to unknown destination, abandoning his family. After some months of serious search, he was found in Nairobi on the streets abusing drugs. He was brought back home but he was never the same. He had become so sick and addicted to drugs that he could neither stay and home nor care for his family. Currently he lives on the streets. Still hope found Franklin under the guardianship of his grandmother who is a widow, very poor and sickling. He is a very intelligent boy and also God fearing. His dream is to become a teacher one-day God willing. He is hopeful to find a destiny helper.

Ian is a 12-year-old boy in grade 4. He is the last born in a family of five siblings. He is a total orphan living with her old stepmother who is also a widow. He likes playing soccer and dancing. Jeff is the last born in a family of two, his elder sister is called Sheryl Achieng, he was never lucky to see his father who died when Jeff was a little boy of 1yr old. Sheryl told us that the family of their father did not want their mother, after some period their uncles sent them and their mother away. They left home and came to the streets. They found one old abandoned house in the street where they took shelter, but after a while,the mother got very sick, they had no money to treat her and that’s when Jeff and his sister went to the streets to beg for food and money. Life became so harsh on them when their sick mother disappeared and abandoned them on the streets. Up to date they still don’t know the whereabouts of their mother. One day as they were begging as usual they came across a woman called Neriah, a member of our Church who was running a small hotel in town. Neriah gave them food, showed them love, and told them to become every day whenever they need food. With time they became so used to Nereah but she could not live with them because she was also a widow with over six children. She came and told us about Jeff and Sheryl and that’s how we got them to still hope Centre. Jeff likes playing soccer, dancing, and singing too. He wants to be an engineer when he grows of age while Sheryl’s desired carrier is to be a nurse.

Jeremiah is the second born in a family of two siblings. He is in grade 7 at Migwa Primary school. He’s a total orphan who was born outside wedlock. He never got the opportunity to know his father. His mother was remarried to another man but that family rejected him because he was born outside wedlock. Two years later her mother died and was buried there. His grandmother took them since that time but life has not been easy for them. Jeremiah together with her sister has been the main breadwinner in the family despite their age. Jeremiah was referred to Still hoping by their school headteacher who got concerned when he started missing school. He’s trusting God for someone to support him reach his destiny of becoming a lawyer. He likes playing soccer, playing drama, and singing in Church.

Kevin is a total orphan who has been living under the guardianship of Antonina Achieng. He has been in Still Hope for the last two years. He is a born again and God-fearing young man. Both his father and mother died in the 2010 and 2012 respectively as a result of HIV/Aids. Antonina who is his step mother took him because he had no one to turn to, but being a widow with other six kids and just a peasant farmer, she could not take good care of all of them. Kevin was referred to Still Hope by their school head teacher who heard about it. His dream is to become a civil engineer one day, God willing. He is a very good footballer and a volleyballer.
