Winslet was born out of wedlock in 2009 when her mother dropped out of school due to early pregnancy. Her mother later became very sick which ended in a total mental incapacitation. She has been living under the care of the elderly grandmother who is a widow and also HIV positive. Currently Winslet is unable to go to school well since the condition of her grandmother has been worse day by day. She come from a very humble Christian background and she was referred to Still Hope the local government officer known as the chief. Winslet’s dream is to become a doctor one day. She likes singing and playing soccer.

Maxwel is a pupil at Aramo Primary school in grade four. He was born out of wedlock then later abandoned by his mother who dropped out of school in grade 8 when she conceived a baby. In 2016 his mother was found died in the streets of Kisumu. His father was never known. Since then he has been under the guardianship and care of his old grandmother who is very sick. He is trusting God for an opportunity to be supported in his education and his basic needs. He was referred to Still Hope by the local government official known as the chief. He polite and well-disciplined boy. He also loves playing soccer.

Laura Atieno was born out of wed-lock when her mother dropped out of high school at form three. Her mother late died when in 2009 when she joined a teaching college in her first year. Laura has been under the care of an elderly grandmother who is just a peasant farmer. Her dream is to become a nurse one day God willing. She was referred to Still Hope by her school head teacher who heard about still hope. She likes singing and playing girls’ soccer. She is praying and trusting God for destiny helper who will support and education and other basic needs. Any help to her will be highly appreciated.

Trever is the first born in a family of three. His father passed on in 2015 after a long sickness. Since then he has ben under the care of his mother Lilian who is very poor and unable to provide for her family. Trever is a very bright boy who always tops his class in his previous school. He was referred to Still Hope by one of the senior pastors of Divine Church. Given an opportunity he can do much better. He loves playing soccer, singing and dancing. He is trusting God to get a sponsor who would support his education and other basic needs .

Sharon is the last born in a family of three siblings. She is in primary grade Eight at Rawinji primary school. She lost her mother in 2010 when she was a small kid. Years later her got very sick and became mentally incapacitated. His father became very wild to an extent he couldn’t interact with anyone. He burnt to ashes his home with everything in it. Sharon and his brothers were rescued by the neighbors who heard the commotion and the cry. Since then Sharon has been under the guardianship of her grandmother who a widow and too old to provide for herself. Sharon was referred to Still hope by the principle of her school who had noticed her challenges. She is an average student with ability to do much better given and opportunity. She praying to get a sponsor who will support her to achieve her dreams of becoming a nurse when she grows up. She likes singing and playing netball.

Solomon is the second born in a family of two siblings He is 16 years old partial orphan. He lost his father when he was nine. His mother who is HIV/Aids positive is seriously sick and unable to take care of her family. Solomon has been living under the guardianship of his grandmother. He scored very good marks last year but could not join the high school of his merit because no one would pay for him school fees. So he decided to join a nearby day school whose standard is not very good. He had accumulated areas in the first and he was contemplating dropping out when schools resume in January next year. He is so talented in writing songs and singing, he is also a very good bible teacher and a footballer. His dream is to become a chemical Engineer or a lawyer one day. Wendy is not a total orphan but she is in desperate need for help. Both her parents are a live but mentally challenged. They are not able to care for Wendy as parents considering the fact that they just wonder in the village and local streets asking for food. One day her mother brought her to Still Hope Orphanage and dumped her there. We did a follow up to their home only to find an empty house with nothing except stones which were scattered all over the floor. We had no option but to keep her at the orphanage. Currently she’s going to school with other kids at Migwa primary School at grade two and she resides at the orphanage. Her dream is to become a school teacher one day. She likes dancing and singing. Our assessment revealed that Velma being a girl living in the slums characterized with early pregnancy, school drop outs, and poor healthcare was exposed to a lot of risks that would hinder her growth, education and personality.
